FRAY BOTOD

Fray Botod was written by Jose Graciano Lopez Jaena. Fray Botod introduces the stereotypical Spanish friar who uses religion as a tool for oppressing others in order to satiate his appetite for food, money and women. He also threatening and punishing some students from the University of Manila. That neglecting his duties as a parish priest in favor of gambling, conducting his business unfairly, and barbarously punishing an Indio laborer who failed to work at his estate for three days.

After i read this story i realize how lucky we are right. In the help of government there's a lot law or punishments we can create justice if that will happens to us right now. And also, as i read this story i think government should raise human rights in our country.

        As i read the story, it broke the notion of patriarchal system as the society sees men as rational type or in line with logic while women are the emotional kind.

    The protagonist Alfredo was very vulnerable in love. He was trapped in deciding what his heart desires. But in the end, he found himself merely infatuated  after he deliberately made a decision. I did not much like the story because of Alfredo's unfaithfulness. If he truly loves a girl, he wouldn't hesitate a bit.

    Benitez may have overused the words for embellishments but I like her own style. I also like how she made it by the perspective of a man. If it will be of a woman (Esperanza), it would be the same old martyr kind of story, and it will be the usual woman longing for her lover.
